The Asia Microbiota Bank is currently sponsoring a clinical research program on the use of human microbiota transplant to alleviate the digestive symptoms of Autism Spectrum Disorder patients. AMB has partnered with a leading private Hong Kong medical clinic to conduct this research project. This program will be offering oral HMT as a treatment for the relief of gastrointestinal symptoms in patients with ASD. For further information about participating in this program, please contact AMB by email health@asiabiobank.com or by phone at +852 5190 6282.

Background

The prevalence of children with autistic spectrum disorders (ASD) is increasing worldwide. The cause of ASD is poorly understood and involves interplay of different genetic and environmental factors where gut microbiota could have a significant impact. More and more research is pointing towards the GUT MICROBIOME as the key to health and disease.

There have been many reports of Autism patients undergoing Fecal Microbiota Transplant (FMT). In 2017, there was a high-profile clinical trial published utilizing FMT for patients with autism. In the open-label trial, 18 children with autism underwent two-week antibiotic treatment followed by a bowel cleanse and multiple doses of FMT. The researchers observed an 80% reduction in gastrointestinal symptoms such as altered bowel movements, abdominal pain, and indigestion.

The AMB HMT Dosage

Designed especially for children, this HMT oral drink involves the stool specimens (through stringently screened healthy donors) that go through an isolation and filtration process, which separates the waste particles containing food, hormones etc. and extracts the live bacteria (microbiota) from the specimen.

The extracted microbes from stool samples are thus processed to reduce any odour are then blended with one of a variety of beverages including flavoured milk, soy milk & rice milk under sterile conditions to ensure the highest of quality. This then gives us the HMT product in the liquid oral form. The final product is then stored using the same storage method as our other products, cryogenically at -80°C until it is ready to be used.
